OUR HISTORY:

Ranges Chess Club commenced in 2004 as an initiative of Ranges Community Church, in association with Olinda Community House.  Ranges soon outgrew this site and moved into the Olinda-Sassafras Senior Citizen's Hall in early 2005.  We became incorporated, and purchased equipment with a generous community grant from Yarra Ranges Shire Council.  Our founding President and Life Member is Marieke Van Dijk.

In the second half of 2007 the club relocated to Upwey Senior Community Centre where we continued to grow.  From 2nd term 2011 Ranges Chess Club moved to its present site at Ferntree Gully Library Community Arts Centre, 1010 Burwood Highway.

As our friendly club has become known to the schools and communities around the hills we continue to expand.  We are grateful for sponsorship from Upwey & District Bendigo Bank for the annual Rookies Shield Rapid Chess Series.  This consists of four tournaments held on Sunday afternoons throughout the year.
